July 3 to 5, 2026 – Le Mans Classic Legend
Some automobiles transcend their original purpose to become part of history. The Porsche 917 is one of them.
Created for one purpose alone, to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it became, in just three years, one of the most legendary racing cars ever built. More than half a century after its birth, and fifty five years after its final victory, the Global 917 Reunion begins on the very circuit where its legend was forged.
Le Mans Classic Legend naturally became the starting point of this extraordinary journey. No other place could have welcomed these cars back with greater significance. It was here that the Porsche 917 secured Porsche’s first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was here that it entered motorsport folklore. And it is here that its story continues to be written.
For several days, owners, drivers, restorers, collectors and enthusiasts from around the world came together, united by a shared passion. Many had never met before, while others were reunited after decades apart. Yet they all shared the same emotion: witnessing so many Porsche 917s gathered only a few metres from the Mulsanne Straight, where they once exceeded 390 km/h (242 mph).
Beyond the cars themselves, this first chapter was above all about bringing together the men and women who preserve their history. Behind every chassis lies decades of research, painstaking restoration, family memories, racing stories and an extraordinary commitment to safeguarding this unique heritage. The Global 917 Reunion was created to offer this remarkable community a gathering worthy of the legacy it protects.
The highlight of this first chapter came with the exceptional parades on the full 24 Hours of Le Mans Circuit. Once again, the Porsche 917s returned to the track together, crossing the start finish straight before sweeping through the legendary corners that had shaped their history. For the owners, as well as the thousands of spectators lining the circuit, it was a timeless moment in which past and present seemed to become one.
Yet the reunion was about far more than seeing the cars on track. Throughout the paddocks, dinners and informal gatherings, participants exchanged knowledge, stories and memories. For a few days, the Porsche 917 was no longer simply an extraordinary collector’s car. It once again became a powerful link between generations, cultures and lives brought together by a common passion.
Le Mans Classic was therefore far more than the opening chapter of the event. It marked the Porsche 917’s return to the very place that made it immortal.
When the engines finally fell silent and the cars left the circuit, however, the adventure was far from over. The Porsche 917s were leaving the world of motorsport to enter the world of art.
For one month, they would be exhibited at Mathieu Lustrerie as part of the largest gathering of Porsche 917s held in Europe since they left the factory, inviting the public to discover these extraordinary machines from a new perspective, not only as legendary racing cars, but also as true works of automotive heritage and art.
